How PUSH Came to Be
P.U.S.H. originated in December 2023, it emerged from a simple observation of the chaos that ensues in a retail environment, particularly during the frenzied rush for gifts and discounts. Witnessing the toll, it took on my coworkers how they were treated and the exhaustion they endured after each shift sparked a profound realization.
Amidst our 45 minute breaks, I engaged in conversations with colleagues, often hearing sentiments like, "At least I'm accumulating hours for my next vacation." However, it was a heartfelt conversation with a young mother that truly catalyzed a shift within me. She confided in me, and shared her struggle as a single parent working tirelessly in the store for nearly three years, uncertain if someday she could do something she loved and still provide for her family. Her story stirred something within me a sense of empathy and determination.
It brought me back to when I was housekeeping and babysitting while undocumented, I wasn’t sure I’d ever have a career. From that moment, I began meticulously documenting the needs and aspirations of my coworkers. It became clear that there was a need for tangible support and resources to uplift and empower them beyond their roles in the store. Something I wish I had back in my days as a nanny.
That is why P.U.S.H. was created a program designed to bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity, providing eligible retail workers with the tools and support they need to pursue their dreams while sustaining themselves and their families.
